Social History

The social history collection is very large and divides into three main areas: domestic life, social life and working life. Within these areas there are notable collections of or relating to: seaside holidays and tourism, cameras, the Second World War, the Home Front, transport, chemists, dairying equipment, local retailers, children’s artist Ivy Millicent James, toys, bicycles, picture postcards and other photographs, akelite, radios, and local commemorabilia. Social history represents 49% of the North Somerset Council museum collection.
