Textiles Workshop – ‘Make a circular rug or bowl’ with Big Sky Textiles @ Weston Museum
Dec 1 @ 18:30 – 20:30

Come and spend a relaxing couple of hours on a Friday evening making your own unique circular rug or bowl.

Learn how a simple crochet hook and any yarn or fabric you like can be used to create a wide variety of round rugs and bowls, including small coasters, large floor rugs and small and large storage bowls, with or without handles. Make something for yourself or as a present for someone else.

Workshop tutor Caroline (of Big Sky Textiles) will bring a choice of materials to use including chunky recycled wool selvedge ‘yarn’ and knitting and rug yarns in a variety of colours – just pay for what you choose. As a guide, a small bowl will cost just a couple of pounds, while wool fabric for a larger rug could cost £15 or more – the technique is the same regardless of material so you just choose whatever you fancy and is within your budget.

If you have materials at home already that you think will be suitable and would like to bring, please feel free to do so. Any knitting or weaving yarns will work, as will t-shirt or wool fabric ‘yarns’ – just be sure to bring plenty as this really is a great stash-busting technique! You will also need a crochet hook – Caroline will provide them for use at the workshop or you can bring your own if you prefer (any medium sort of size hook is fine, an exact size is not important). Caroline will also bring some examples of her work to inspire your own creativity and will provide a handout with information about lots of ideas for future projects.

More examples of Caroline’s can be seen on her website – Big Sky Textiles

Cost: £18 plus materials (materials cost to be paid to tutor on the night). Tickets can be bought in advance, as numbers are limited, from the museum reception by popping in or calling the main number – 01934621028.

North Somerset is part of “Know Your Place”, an online mapping and local history project. From the coastal communities of Portishead, Clevedon and Weston, further inland to Blagdon and Leigh Woods, you can now discover how North Somerset has been transformed over time.

Heritage officers from North Somerset Council and staff and volunteers from Weston Museum would like to invite you to an open event where you can learn more about how to use Know Your Place, and even add some interesting information yourself!

Drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm to find out more, no need to book for this free entry event.

We will have some computers available for having a go at using Know Your Place at the event, but if you wish to bring along your own laptop, tablet or mobile phone, we can show you how to use the resource.

We would also encourage you to bring along photographs or artifacts we can photograph that you would like to upload to the Community Layer.
