Rusty Club Launch Day! @ Weston Museum
Apr 7 @ 11:00 – 15:00
Are you a young explorer who loves history and archaeology? Join our Young Archaeologist Club, which we call ‘Rusty Club’ after our mascot ‘Rusty the Iron Age Dog’.

The club will run once a month on a Saturday morning beginning with our launch day at the end of the Easter holidays. Come along to the museum to try out some free activities and find out more about joining. Rusty Club members will be official YAC members and will get to do lots of different fun activities both within the museum and on fun trips out!

Rusty Club is for young explorers aged 8-16 and will cost £15 for 6 months (when paid in advance) or £3 per session. Rusty will soon have his own section on our website, where you can find out lots about upcoming sessions as well as information and stories about Rusty and the Iron Age.

‘Know Your Place’ Mapping Day @ Weston Museum
Jul 21 @ 11:00 – 15:00
'Know Your Place' Mapping Day @ Weston Museum | England | United Kingdom

North Somerset is part of “Know Your Place”, an online mapping and local history project. This is a free digital mapping project which allows users to explore the heritage of their local area through old maps, archive images and linked information. From the coastal communities of Portishead, Clevedon and Weston, further inland to Blagdon and Leigh Woods, you can now discover how North Somerset has been transformed over time.

Heritage officers from North Somerset Council and staff and volunteers from Weston Museum would like to invite you to an open event where you can learn more about how to use Know Your Place, and even add some interesting information yourself!

Drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm to find out more, no need to book for this free entry event.

We will have some computers available for having a go at using Know Your Place at the event, but if you wish to bring along your own laptop, tablet or mobile phone, we can show you how to use the resource.

We would also encourage you to bring along photographs or artifacts we can photograph that you would like to upload to the Community Layer.

Big Dig!
Sep 8 @ 10:00 – Sep 9 @ 16:00
Big Dig!

Imagine what it is like to be a paleontologist digging for fossils and learn about our ancient past in this special family friendly event. Meet a Tyrannosaurus Rex and have your photo taken dressed as a dinosaur!

Children can dig for finds in our Big Dig pits and match them up to identify the creatures that lived on the earth millions of years ago, before exploring the galleries and marvelling at some amazing real fossil specimens from the local area. We will also be visited by a scary Tyrannosaurus Rex called ‘Titch’, who will be spending the weekend in our courtyard. Children can dress up like a dinosaur and have their picture taken with this almost life size dinosaur!

There is no need to book for this event and there is no charge to join in, just drop in throughout the day on the Saturday (10-5) or Sunday (10-4).

For more information, just contact the museum team.
