Textiles Workshop – ‘Make a circular rug or bowl’ with Big Sky Textiles @ Weston Museum
Dec 1 @ 18:30 – 20:30

Come and spend a relaxing couple of hours on a Friday evening making your own unique circular rug or bowl.

Learn how a simple crochet hook and any yarn or fabric you like can be used to create a wide variety of round rugs and bowls, including small coasters, large floor rugs and small and large storage bowls, with or without handles. Make something for yourself or as a present for someone else.

Workshop tutor Caroline (of Big Sky Textiles) will bring a choice of materials to use including chunky recycled wool selvedge ‘yarn’ and knitting and rug yarns in a variety of colours – just pay for what you choose. As a guide, a small bowl will cost just a couple of pounds, while wool fabric for a larger rug could cost £15 or more – the technique is the same regardless of material so you just choose whatever you fancy and is within your budget.

If you have materials at home already that you think will be suitable and would like to bring, please feel free to do so. Any knitting or weaving yarns will work, as will t-shirt or wool fabric ‘yarns’ – just be sure to bring plenty as this really is a great stash-busting technique! You will also need a crochet hook – Caroline will provide them for use at the workshop or you can bring your own if you prefer (any medium sort of size hook is fine, an exact size is not important). Caroline will also bring some examples of her work to inspire your own creativity and will provide a handout with information about lots of ideas for future projects.

More examples of Caroline’s can be seen on her website – Big Sky Textiles

Cost: £18 plus materials (materials cost to be paid to tutor on the night). Tickets can be bought in advance, as numbers are limited, from the museum reception by popping in or calling the main number – 01934621028.

A Victorian Christmas Celebration @ Weston Museum
Dec 16 @ 10:00 – 17:00

At Weston Museum, we have a strong Victorian heritage and the Victorians knew how to do Christmas. With a big tree, traditional decorations, the sound of carols and the smell of something mulled in the air! If you would like something a bit different from the hectic, modern side of the festive season, then come and join us for a Victorian Christmas experience!

See Father Christmas!

Father Christmas will be making a special appearance to reward children who take part in our special Christmas trail with a gift from under our big tree. Father Christmas will be joining his elves on the trails that start at 11am and then at 3pm. Spaces for this are limited, so we advise booking in advance. You can book and pay for a space by either popping in to the museum or by phoning our main number (01934 621028) from Monday 13th November. The cost of £2.50 per child includes both the trail activity and the special gift from Father Christmas at the end.

Make some Christmas crafts

We will also have family friendly Christmas crafts in our Learning Space for children to make their own Christmas cards and tree decorations. There will be different crafts for both younger and slightly older children. We will also be joined by the lovely duo from Rainbow Sands again, so children can make some Christmas themed sand art. The craft activities do not need to be pre-booked, you can drop in between 11am and 3pm. Set prices apply for some crafts, whereas others are for a donation.

Enjoy some festive food and buy some gorgeous gifts

The cafe will have a special Christmas menu throughout December and our shop will feature a wide range of gifts for you to find something quirky and different from the rest of the high street.

Can’t make these dates? Maybe you could pop along to our special evening opening on Friday 15th December, when we will have carols and special one-off offers in our shop! Head back to the ‘What’s On’ calendar for more details.
