It’s National Volunteers Week

Weston Museum thanks its volunteers during National Volunteers Week – 1st – 12th June

The team at Weston Museum will be taking the opportunity to highlight the contribution that their volunteers make to the work that the Museum carries out. Thanks will go out via the Museum’s Facebook and Twitter pages, to show the valuable work that the volunteers do to support anything from events and learning sessions to helping with the everyday tasks of admin and maintaining resources.

The museum service relies on the support of its volunteers to provide a wide variety of events, historical information and learning resources. During the refurbishment, there is still lots going on and volunteers are still essential to the work with many new roles being created. The museum aims to give volunteers a stimulating, varied and enjoyable experience, which is flexible and can cater to the interests and goals of individuals.

Volunteering can bring many benefits to an individual and improve wellbeing and job opportunities. Volunteering can help people improve their skills, learn new things, provide work experience and have fun by meeting new people. Volunteer coordinator, Lisa Clemons comments that ‘many of the museum’s volunteers get some great benefits from being involved in museum activities; it can be good for wellbeing and give people an opportunity to get involved in activities they might not otherwise have the chance to do’.

As part of a Summer volunteer recruitment drive, the museum team will be holding a number of volunteer taster days in June and July, where both current and prospective volunteers will have the chance to take part in small workshops, chat with other volunteers and find out what activities they can get involved with. For dates and information please contact the museum team on museum@wsm-tc.gov.uk or 01934621028.
