DESCRIPTION:  \nHistory Week is back this February Half Term! Come and explore the past from the Ancient World up to the Victorians\, with hands on activity sessions and amazing reenactors. \nFrom Tuesday to Friday we have activity sessions in our Learning Space exploring different eras:\nTuesday – Ancient Worlds\nWednesday – Roman Invasion\nThursday – The Vikings\nFriday – The Victorians \nWorkshop times: 10.30-11.15\, 11.30-12.15 & 1-1.45 pm \nOn Tuesday\, we will also be joined for the day by members of the Community group The Multicultural Friendship Association in our Courtyard area. Whilst we explore some Ancient World Cultures in our sessions\, they will be showcasing the wide variety of cultures and groups that have made Weston their home today! \nIn our workshop\, we will explore Ancient Egypt and get to grips with Ancient Greece; have a go at hieroglyphs\, practise some mummification and design some Greek pottery! \nTickets for sessions in the Learning Space cost £6 per child and can be purchased via Ticketsource or by calling or popping in to the museum. Pre-booking recommended. There is no cost for entry to the Courtyard area to meet the groups. These sessions are most suitable for children of school age and their grown-ups\, but are accessible to all ages and abilities with adult support. Accompanying adults do not need to purchase a separate ticket.

DESCRIPTION:  \nHistory Week is back this February Half Term! Come and explore the past from the Ancient World up to the Victorians\, with hands on activity sessions and amazing reenactors. \nFrom Tuesday to Friday we have activity sessions in our Learning Space exploring different eras:\nTuesday – Ancient Worlds\nWednesday – Roman Invasion\nThursday – The Vikings\nFriday – The Victorians \nWorkshop times: 10.30-11.15\, 11.30-12.15 & 1-1.45 pm \nOn Friday\, we will also be joined in our Courtyard for the day by the Ragged Victorians\, a brilliant reenactment group who show the darker side of life in Victorian Britain! \nQueen Victoria was a real trendsetter\, explore how her reign changed so many things\, from the Royal Mail to the Royal Mint and even the Royal Crown in our action-packed workshop! \nTickets for sessions in the Learning Space cost £6 per child and can be purchased via Ticketsource or by calling or popping in to the museum. Pre-booking recommended. There is no cost for entry to the Courtyard area to meet the groups. These sessions are most suitable for children of school age and their grown-ups\, but are accessible to all ages and abilities with adult support. Accompanying adults do not need to purchase a separate ticket.

DESCRIPTION:Quentin Blake: Illustrating Verse\nThe first ever exhibition dedicated to Quentin Blake’s illustrations for poetry – on tour across the UKAt Weston Museum from 4 March – 3 June 2023. Free Entry. \n“The choice of moments\, and a sense of discretion about what to draw and what not to draw\, is particularly important in the business of illustrating poetry.” Quentin Blake \nQuentin Blake has been writing and illustrating poetry throughout his 60-year career. Many of his own books feature rhymes and songs\, and he has collaborated with writers including Michael Rosen and Roald Dahl. \nAs well as artwork for popular nursery rhymes like The Owl and the Pussycat and classic stories including Alice in Wonderland\, the exhibition features previously unseen works from Blake’s archive\, such as surreal illustrations for Sylvia Plath’s The Bed Book and mischievous cats for T. S. Elliot’s The Song of the Jellicles. \nSketchbooks and rough drawings give a rare insight into Blake’s writing and book design process\, as well as the creation of characters for Roald Dahl’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and his own Mr Magnolia. \nThis exhibition features original illustrations courtesy of Quentin Blake.\nQuentin Blake: Illustrating Verse is a touring exhibition from Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration. \nExhibition information:\nDates: 4 March – 3 June 2023 We are closed on Sundays and Mondays
