SUMMARY:Heritage Craft Workshops - Adult and Child Session
DESCRIPTION:  \nEnjoy trying out two different heritage crafts in this adult and child version of our popular Heritage Craft Workshops. Explore both the history and practise of two craft techniques with experienced historical crafters to guide you and then have a go yourself at creating an item to take home. \nIn March’s workshop you can explore textiles and mosaics; you’ll learn about the history of mosaics with our archaeologist and mosaics crafter Jane Hill\, before making your own mosaic coaster to take home. You’ll also get to learn about the history of textiles with textile crafter and historical educator Katherine Bell and have a go at a choice of textile techniques including rigid heddle weaving\, inkle weaving\, disc braiding and lucet braiding. \nEach workshop lasts 45 minutes and there are refreshments available throughout\, of a choice of drink and a sweet treat. \nThis session is designed for adults and children to work together\, so it’s a great chance for parents or grandparents to share an interest together and both learn a new craft. Children need to be at least 9 years old\, but attendees don’t require any previous experience of the craft\, even complete beginners are welcome.\nTickets cost £15 per attendee and include both workshops\, plus materials and refreshments. Each booking needs to include at least 1 adult and 1 child\, but additional children over 9 years or additional adults can also book a slot with the group. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketsource or by calling or popping in to the museum. Pre-booking is essential. \nFor more information\, contact the museum team on 01934 621028 or museum@wsm-tc.gov.uk

SUMMARY:An Introduction To Hidden Art In Ancient Egypt
DESCRIPTION:Join Justin Newland for An Introduction To Hidden Art In Ancient Egypt.\nMillions of us have admired the eternal beauty of Tutankhamun’s funerary mask\, as seen below. In this talk\, the first in a series of three to be held in Somerset this spring\, local author and speaker Justin Newland introduces some of the mysteries of hidden art in ancient Egypt. He not only explores the easily seen messages and codes in their art\, but also reveals concealed figures and animals. The talk will appeal to the art lover\, the student of history\, those fascinated by Egypt\, or anyone curious about the enigmas of life. \nTimes:\n2.00pm – 3.30pm \nDate:\nSaturday 21 March 2026 \nCost:\nEntry £6.50 per person\, £4.00 for concession. SUMMARY:Arty Artefacts - Home Educators Monthly Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Spring Season of Arty Artefacts – Home Educators Monthly Sessions!\nEach month\, we will take part in a variety of different hands on and creative activities inspired by historical art and design or linking to items from the collections. Monthly sessions will be organised in pairs and the Spring season will focus on a particular material – wool! \nChildren will explore a little of the history of wool\, with lots of physical examples to touch\, before having a go at experimenting with wet felting. In our second session\, we will focus in on aspects that were of most interest to the children in the first session\, so the main elements will be as child led as possible. \nDates and Times\nSpring season dates and times are as follows:\nWednesday 11th March (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors)\nWednesday 8th April (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors) \nAges and Abilities\nSessions are designed to be active and accessible for a mix of ages and abilities with 2 separate sessions for younger or older children. The morning session will be aimed at slightly younger children aged approximately 5-8 or approximately key stage 1\, nicknamed our Juniors\, and the afternoon session will be aimed at the slightly older children aged approximately 9+ or approximately key stage 2\, nicknamed our Seniors. If you would like to attend as a family group with mixed ages\, then just pick whichever session you feel would be most suitable for the group as a whole.\nIf you would like to let us know about any specific considerations for your children then we would welcome this\, just get in touch. \nAccompanying Adults\nTickets need to be purchased for each child attending\, but grown ups do not need to purchase a separate ticket. It usually works best for the children who need that extra bit of support (such as those who are younger\, less confident or need extra help with engaging)\, if grown ups stay and join in with activities. Whereas for older\, more confident and more self-directed children it is usually fine for grown ups to not stay in the session if they prefer\, although they will need to stay within the museum building whilst the session is taking place. \nPrice and How to Book\nTickets cost £13 per child for the 2 month paired block and can be booked via Ticketsource or by popping into or phoning the museum directly. \nAttendees will be encouraged to continue their learning at home between sessions by utilising links and resources emailed out. \nRusty Club (YAC) Membership – Please note that we do some of the same crafts or activities in Rusty Club sessions as we do in Home Educator sessions\, so if you decide to join in with both programmes there may be some sessions with duplicated topics\, so we tend to advise choosing one programme or the other.

SUMMARY:Arty Artefacts - Home Educators Monthly Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Early Summer Season of Arty Artefacts – Home Educators Monthly Sessions!\nEach month\, we will take part in a variety of different hands on and creative activities inspired by historical art and design or linking to items from the collections. Monthly sessions will be organised in pairs and the Early Summer season will focus on nature inspired art\, with leaves and flowers galore! \nChildren will explore a variety of examples of 2D and 3D art inspired by or incorporating natural elements\, with lots of natural examples to study and touch. We will use these as inspiration for some creative responses\, such as nature weaving or leaf printing. In our second session\, we will focus in on aspects that were of most interest to the children in the first session\, so the main elements will be as child led as possible. \nDates and Times\nEarly Summer season dates and times are as follows:\nWednesday 13th May (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors)\nWednesday 10th June (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors) \nAges and Abilities\nSessions are designed to be active and accessible for a mix of ages and abilities with 2 separate sessions for younger or older children.
