It was one of the first places in England to receive this status. SUMMARY:The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and Other Dazzling Drawings
DESCRIPTION:The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and other Dazzling Drawings\nExhibition opening at Weston Museum Summer 2022\nThis summer visitors to Weston Museum can discover an inspirational array of cartoons and art by the Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown in the major exhibition The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and other Dazzling Drawings. \nSee the original covers for some of the Horrible Histories and discover more of Martin’s work from his beginnings as a humorous graphic artist and fan of cartoons. The Horrible Histories books\, written by Terry Deary\, were launched in 1993 and are now world bestsellers. They have inspired TV series\, stage shows\, exhibitions and even a feature film. The series re-launched in 2021 with new titles including the history of flight ‘Up in the Air’. \nMartin said: “The most important thing about drawing is enjoying it – having fun. And one of the best ways to have fun drawing is by doodling cartoons. Cartoons don’t have to look ‘right’\, in fact they are supposed to look silly. I should know\, I’ve been drawing sillily for years. And now I get to open a brilliant exhibition of all that silliness. I hope lots of you will come and visit – and hopefully be inspired to pick up a pencil and draw too. Because you never know where your doodles could take you!” \nMARTIN BROWN: HORRIBLE HISTORIES AND OTHER DAZZLING DRAWINGS\nMartin Brown is among the most accomplished cartoonists of his generation. Since 1993 Martin has illustrated Horrible Histories\, working with author Terry Deary to create one of the best-loved series of children’s books ever published. Underpinning all his work is Martin’s wish to use the power of illustration to entertain and educate\, and his belief that everyone should pick up a pencil and draw. \nAt the exhibition you will see an inspirational array of cartoons and art by Martin. From his beginnings drawing cartoons for magazines and greeting cards\, to the mega-best-selling Horrible Histories and Lesser Spotted Animal books. There are tonnes more cartoons to see too\, including illustrations from his book Nell and the Cave Bear. \nExhibition open 23 July to 12 November 2022. \nExhibition supported by Arts Council England and co-created with Events of Wonder. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n
