SUMMARY:Amazing Artefacts - Home Educators Monthly Sessions
DESCRIPTION:  \nWelcome to the Winter Season of Amazing Artefacts – Home Educators Monthly Sessions!\nEach month\, we will take part in a variety of different hands on activities inspired by an item from the collections. Each season\, we will explore a new theme\, which for the Winter Season will be ‘Transport’. \nWinter season dates and times are as follows:\nWednesday 13th Dec (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors)\nWednesday 10th Jan (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors)\nWednesday 7th Feb (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors) (please note that February’s date is a slight change from the usual 2nd Wednesday and will be on the 1st Wednesday of the month instead) \nSessions are designed to be active and accessible for a mix of ages and abilities with 2 separate sessions for younger or older children. The morning session will be aimed at slightly younger children aged approximately 5-8\, nicknamed our Juniors\, and the afternoon session will be aimed at the slightly older children aged approximately 9+\, nicknamed our Seniors. If you would like to attend as a family group with mixed ages\, then just pick whichever session you feel would be most suitable for the group as a whole.\nIf you would like to let us know about any specific considerations for your children then we would welcome this\, just get in touch. \nTickets need to be purchased for each child attending\, but grown ups do not need to purchase a separate ticket. It usually works best for the younger or less confident children if grown ups stay and join in with activities. Whereas for older or more confident children it is usually fine for grown ups to not stay in the session\, although they will need to stay within the museum building whilst the session is taking place. Tickets cost £17.50 per child for the 3 month seasonal block and can be booked via Ticketsource or by popping into or phoning the museum directly.\nAttendees will be encouraged to continue their learning at home between sessions and the year will finish with a display of the children’s work from all of the sessions within the museum. \nRusty Club (YAC) Membership – Please note that we occasionally do the same crafts or activities in Rusty Club sessions as we do in Home Educator sessions\, so if you decide to join in with both programmes there may be some sessions with duplicated topics.

SUMMARY:ADVENTURES IN TIME AND SPACE – 60 YEARS OF DOCTOR WHO ART EXHIBITION
DESCRIPTION:ADVENTURES IN TIME AND SPACE – 60 YEARS OF DOCTOR WHO ART EXHIBITION\nWeston Museum\n21 October 2023 – 13 April 2024 (The Museum is Closed on a Sunday and Monday) \nAllons-y\, time travellers and art aficionados! Weston Museum is all set to take you on a nostalgia-filled ride with “Adventures in Time and Space – 60 Years of Doctor Who Art.” Celebrating the show’s whopping six decades of wibbly-wobbly\, timey-wimey greatness in November 2023. This exhibition promises to be a treat for all those who’ve shared an adventure with the Doctor. \nHold onto your sonic screwdrivers as we journey back to the roots of the longest-running Sci-Fi extravaganza known to humanity. From the classic era that graced our screens from 1963 to 1989\, to the modern reboot that’s been stealing our hearts since 2005\, this exhibition is a heartwarming journey for Whovians of all generations. \nThis is the largest collection of original and digital art from and about the programme ever shown in one location. \nExpect to be greeted by the images of familiar faces of the Doctors we’ve cherished through the years – from the stern charm of William Hartnell to the iconic scarf-swirling of Tom Baker\, the cheeky charm of David Tennant\, the ground-breaking brilliance of Jodie Whittaker\, and with the excitement of the new Ncuti Gatwa. And of course\, it wouldn’t be a Doctor Who affair without our favourite villains – the Daleks\, Cybermen\, and a host of creatures that have given the Doctor a run for their money across time and space. \nThe exhibition unfolds like the pages of a well-worn book\, displaying iconic book covers\, a blast from the past with those VHS video covers we all remember (oh\, the nostalgia!)\, annuals\, comics\, and graphic novels that have kept us hooked. To add a sprinkle of that quintessential Doctor Who magic\, there’s even a painting that made its debut on the show itself. \nWe’ve dived into the TARDIS of artistic archives\, rounding up an exceptional collection from private art collectors and dedicated fans who’ve lovingly held onto these visual treasures. Marvel at the original cover art of the very first Doctor Who Annual from way back in 1965 – the colours as vivid as a freshly regenerated Time Lord. We’ve joined forces with Doctor Who’s very own artistic time-travellers\, securing their prized works from their dusty vaults and bringing them to life with high-resolution digital wizardry. \nThis artistic ensemble features legends like Andrew Skilleter\, whose art has become as timeless as the Doctor’s adventures\, and Chris Achilleos\, the genius behind the iconic covers of the Target Doctor Who novels. There’s also Colin Howard\, the artist responsible for those captivating video covers\, the legendary Dave Gibbons of Marvel comics fame\, pop culture chronicler Jeff Cummins\, and storyboard extraordinaire Mike Collins from Bad Wolf Studios. The line-up continues with Jessica Martin\, Bill Donohoe\, David McAllister\, Lee Binding\, Lee Sullivan\, Sophie Leong\, Gwen Burns\, Eren Angiolini\, and the dynamic duo Anthony Dry & Stuart Crouch. \n‘Don’t blink’ for an expedition that transcends time and space\, as we celebrate the legacy of Doctor Who through a captivating display of artistry and many other Dr Who events that will take place during the run of the exhibition. The exhibition was organised by the South West Heritage Trust and Events of Wonder.

SUMMARY:Civic Society Talk – Clough Williams-Ellis: The 1947 Weston Master Plan
DESCRIPTION:Join the Civic Society for their monthly talk. This month’s speaker is Councillor John Crockford-Hawley.\nThe 1947 Development Plan was so radical\, so car orientated and so dismissive of Victorian architecture that nothing short of starting anew was deemed appropriate for the town’s future prosperity. \n“A Garden City By The Sea” had an airing but this hugely controversial plan never left the drawing board (apart from one residential property which was built). \nAnd who were the great national figures behind this plan? The Hon Lionel Brett (Rector of the Royal College of Art and President of the RIBA) and Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (of Portmeirion fame). \nThe story has never really been told and few plans remain in existence but Councillor John Crockford-Hawley has researched the fascinating and controversial subject\, recreated plans from the old documents and produced a fully illustrated PowerPoint presentation especially for Weston Civic Society. \nPart of the Heritage Talk series thanks to support from Historic England and the High Street Heritage Action Zone. \nTimes:\ndoors open 19:00\ntalk starts 19:30 \nCost:\nAll are welcome – entrance is free to members\, and £2.00 for non-members.
