Open from 6 December 2025 to 14 March 2026\, Stories of Home: Portraits of our Community brings together a compelling series of self-portraits and personal reflections that illuminate what it means to call Weston-super-Mare ‘home’.\n\nAhead of the exhibition\, members of the community were invited to take part in photography and filming sessions. Stepping in front of the camera\, participants were encouraged to look directly into the lens for a photographic self-portrait and to share their thoughts on the idea of ‘home’\, and what Weston means to them.\n\nThe project captured 120 self-portraits\, each offering a candid glimpse into the people and everyday stories that shape the town. Participants were also given the opportunity to record short audio reflections\, some of which will feature in a film for the exhibition.\n\nVisitors to the exhibition will also be able to contribute their own stories at open sessions taking place at Weston Museum on Saturday 10 January\, Saturday 14 February\, and Thursday 5 March 2026. Open from 6 December 2025 to 14 March 2026\, Stories of Home: Portraits of our Community brings together a compelling series of self-portraits and personal reflections that illuminate what it means to call Weston-super-Mare ‘home’.\n\nAhead of the exhibition\, members of the community were invited to take part in photography and filming sessions. Stepping in front of the camera\, participants were encouraged to look directly into the lens for a photographic self-portrait and to share their thoughts on the idea of ‘home’\, and what Weston means to them.\n\nThe project captured 120 self-portraits\, each offering a candid glimpse into the people and everyday stories that shape the town. SUMMARY:Arty Artefacts - Home Educators Monthly Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Winter Season of Arty Artefacts – Home Educators Monthly Sessions!\nEach month\, we will take part in a variety of different hands on and creative activities inspired by historical art and design or linking to items from the collections. Monthly sessions will be organised in pairs and as this season is the first of our art focussed ones\, January and February sessions will be exploring some of the oldest examples of art\, particularly cave paintings! \nChildren will have a chance to see examples of ancient art and discuss why humans make art before having a go at making their own pigments from natural materials and recreating some cave painting inspired pieces. In our second session\, we will focus in on aspects that were of most interest to the children in the first session\, so the main elements will be as child led as possible. \nDates and Times\nWinter season dates and times are as follows:\nWednesday 14th Jan (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors)\nWednesday 11th Feb (10:30-11:30 Juniors\, 12-1 Seniors) \nAges and Abilities\nSessions are designed to be active and accessible for a mix of ages and abilities with 2 separate sessions for younger or older children. The morning session will be aimed at slightly younger children aged approximately 5-8 or approximately key stage 1\, nicknamed our Juniors\, and the afternoon session will be aimed at the slightly older children aged approximately 9+ or approximately key stage 2\, nicknamed our Seniors. If you would like to attend as a family group with mixed ages\, then just pick whichever session you feel would be most suitable for the group as a whole.\nIf you would like to let us know about any specific considerations for your children then we would welcome this\, just get in touch. \nAccompanying Adults\nTickets need to be purchased for each child attending\, but grown ups do not need to purchase a separate ticket. It usually works best for the children who need that extra bit of support (such as those who are younger\, less confident or need extra help with engaging)\, if grown ups stay and join in with activities. Whereas for older\, more confident and more self-directed children it is usually fine for grown ups to not stay in the session if they prefer\, although they will need to stay within the museum building whilst the session is taking place. \nPrice and How to Book\nTickets cost £13 per child for the 2 month paired block and can be booked via Ticketsource or by popping into or phoning the museum directly. \nAttendees will be encouraged to continue their learning at home between sessions by utilising links and resources emailed out. \nRusty Club (YAC) Membership – Please note that we do some of the same crafts or activities in Rusty Club sessions as we do in Home Educator sessions\, so if you decide to join in with both programmes there may be some sessions with duplicated topics\, so we tend to advise choosing one programme or the other.

Open from 6 December 2025 to 14 March 2026\, Stories of Home: Portraits of our Community brings together a compelling series of self-portraits and personal reflections that illuminate what it means to call Weston-super-Mare ‘home’.\n\nAhead of the exhibition\, members of the community were invited to take part in photography and filming sessions. Stepping in front of the camera\, participants were encouraged to look directly into the lens for a photographic self-portrait and to share their thoughts on the idea of ‘home’\, and what Weston means to them.\n\nThe project captured 120 self-portraits\, each offering a candid glimpse into the people and everyday stories that shape the town. Participants were also given the opportunity to record short audio reflections\, some of which will feature in a film for the exhibition.\n\nVisitors to the exhibition will also be able to contribute their own stories at open sessions taking place at Weston Museum on Saturday 10 January\, Saturday 14 February\, and Thursday 5 March 2026. Visitors can have their photographic self-portrait taken\, share their thoughts of ‘home’ and see their image added to a display on the community wall.\n\nStories of Home: Portraits of Our Community has been created in partnership with the South West Heritage Trust\, Weston Museum and Weston-super-Mare Town Council\, with support from a range of community groups.\n\nEntry to the exhibition is free.
