Families will get the chance to join in with a community dig this Easter in Ellenborough Park East and get a taster of what it’s like to be an Archaeologist! Children can get hands on and have a do at some digging in a test pit, with expert support from North Somerset’s Senior Archaeologist and Weston’s Archaeological Society.

Digging will take place across 3 different days. One day will be for members of Rusty Club, the museum’s Young Archaeologist’s Club, another will be for home educating families as part of the museum’s learning programme. The third day will be for local families; spaces cost £7.50 and can be booked online through Ticketsource.

‘Learning about the process of an archaeological dig is great fun and getting muddy whilst doing it really brings it all to life! Children can have a go at some real archaeological techniques, use trowels and sieves to search for finds and then identify them with expert help.’ – Katherine Bell, Learning Officer at Weston Museum

The family dig day will take place on Tuesday 11th April 2023 with session slot times at 10:30-11:30, 12-1 and 1:30-2:30. Numbers are limited so booking is essential.
