The Festival of Archaeology, organised by the Council for British Archaeology (CBA), takes place up and down the country from 16th to 30th July 2022.  This year’s theme explores ‘journeys’. There will be digital activities and resources running across the whole CBA Festival, as well as ‘on the ground’ walks, tours, exhibitions, re-enactments and family fun activities.

The Council for British Archaeology, aims to open up archaeology to as many people as possible. Whether you’re fascinated by archaeology, want to get involved by volunteering, or are studying or working in archaeology, it offers a range of exciting ways to get involved. You can find out more by going to https://www.archaeologyuk.org/festival.html

Weston Museum, in partnership with North Somerset Council Heritage team is taking part again.  There will be a special event day on Saturday 23rd July, where you can drop in for some free activities between 10am and 3pm. Find out about transport in the past through our photographic display, explore the online map site ‘Know Your Place’, make a Weston-super-Mare 1920’s tram out of paper and chat to experts and volunteers. This is a free drop in event in the museum’s ground floor Learning Space; you do not need to book in advance.

Our colleagues at North Somerset Council will be exploring the Historic Environment Record, looking at a range of sub-themes such as route and trackways, transport, archaeological finds and heritage walks and trails around the area. Senior Archaeologist, Cat Lodge, will be available virtually to answer questions as part of #AskAnArchaeologist on 22nd July, and as with other years we’ll be writing our blog posts for ‘A Day in Archaeology’.  Keep an eye on https://en-gb.facebook.com/groups/638416113618702/ for local history information.
